Mr. Needham Smith, a son of Burt Smith, was found dead in the corn field by his plow Fri. evening between dinner time and supper time. He was about 30 years of age, had a wife and two children. He had been cutting wheat in the forenoon and after he had eaten dinner, said he would go to a certain field and plow corn during the balance of the day. After he had rested awhile after noon, he caught out one of his work mules and went to plowing. He had been in the habit of coming back to the house for a cold drink of water after he had worked awhile, the weather was exceedingly warm, and after he had been gone long enough to return home, his wife went to the door to see if she could see him coming, but she could only hear the braying of the mule, an unusual occurrence for her, and it was concluded to take him a cool drink of water and learn the cause of the mule's discontent. She took the bucket of water and wended her way to where the mule was standing and at the plow handles she saw the body of her beloved husband lying cold in death. She of course was shocked and raised the alarm. His mind has not been as clear as usual and it is now believed he came to his death by heart failure. His wife was a step child of Dick Thomas, whose wife was a Miss Miller, sister of Mrs. Dora Smith.
