A BIOGRAPHY OF JOHN B. OVERMYER, by Laurence Overmire (Half 2C5R), Genealogist and Overmyer Family Historian, Aug. 2008:

John B. Overmyer was born in New Reading, Perry County, Ohio, on June 16, 1835, the son of Peter and Rosannah (Bueb) Overmyer.

A farmer, he married Amanda Baker, daughter of James and Nancy Baker, on Christmas in 1856. They had a son who died in infancy about 1858 and a son Lewis Albert born in 1859. Amanda died at the age of 26 on Oct. 10, 1862.

On Oct. 21, 1868, John married a second time to Sarah Rebecca Snyder, daughter of Simon and Nancy Ann (Jackson) Snyder. They had 6 children: Mary Genevieve, Eudora R., Clara J., John Jackson, Nancy A. and Robert Edward.

Known for his honesty and quiet demeanor, John was a trustee of his township and in 1873 was elected to the office of County Treasurer. He served for two terms. He was also an inventor. He invented a time lock for the safes in the treasurer's office.

John lived in the family mansion "where the Overmeyer name and ancestry has been known and honored for more than three quarters of a century."

He died in New Reading on Nov. 29, 1906, at the age of 71, and was buried in the New Reading Cemetery.
