Richard Ida Sr., 77, formerly of Augusta and Osseo passed away Friday Aug. 15, 2008, at Edgewater Nursing Home in Port Edwards.
Richard was born to Albert and Lily (Sell) Ida on Aug. 26, 1930, in the town Lincoln, rural Augusta. As a child he attended Lincoln and Rodell country schools and Augusta High School. He served in the United States Army in Germany during the Korean conflict. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Smith on June 26, 1952. The couple lived all their married life in Augusta, during which time Richard drove bulk milk truck for Wisconsin Dairies of Eau Claire. He and Phyllis also owned and operated the Red Dot Cafe in Augusta for several years. He later married Alice Riphenburg Fremstad on Dec. 26, 1979, and the couple lived in Osseo. Before his retirement he was employed as a semi driver for Safe and Trac. Since December of 2007, he had been a resident of Edgewater Haven Nursing Home in Port Edwards.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; sister, Virginia Tappe; brother, Ira (Helen) Ida; children: Richard Jr. (Cindy) Ida, Rex Ida, Mark Ida, Audree (Mark) Van Helden, Orlin (Eileen) Fremstad, Curtis Fremstad, Patricia Barnes-Sperl, Charles (Lori) Fremstad and Jon (Deena) Fremstad; 21 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lily, on July 25, 1979, and father, Albert, on April 4, 1989.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with Pastor Ron Walter officiating. Burial will be in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta. Friends may call two hours prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations can be made in Richard's name to: Ministry Home Care (hospice) and Country Cruisers Car Club of Osseo.
