CANADIAN - Ruth Ella May, 81, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dinzel Leonard officiating. Burial will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery by Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian.

Ruth Ella was born March 29, 1927, in Lipscomb County to the late Lewis Pundt and Rachel Shahan Pundt. She attended grammar school at Locust Grove and was a 1944 graduate of Canadian High School. She received her AA degree in 1946 from Wayland Baptist University in Plainview. She also attended West Texas State University in Canyon from 1951 to 1953. She married Carey May on May 28, 1950, in Locust Grove Baptist Church. He preceded her in death on June 28, 1981.

She was a lifelong resident of Hemphill County. She worked as a schoolteacher for Canadian Independent School District, Lipscomb Independent School District and Seminole Independent School District. She was a member of Hobby Club, Canasta Club and WTCU Club. She was also a longtime member of First Baptist Church, where she helped with many church activities.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Carey Thomas May.

Survivors include a son, Earl J. May and wife Joyce of Canadian; a sister, Earline Whitfield and husband Bill of Levelland; and seven grandchildren, Steven May of Tucson, Ariz., Michael May and wife Lindsey of Lubbock, Rachel May of Stephens City, Va., Ryan May of Dallas and Tracye Lamb, Lindye Alumbaugh and T.J. May and wife Prisha, all of Abilene.;

The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church, 706 Main St., Canadian, TX 79014.
