Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Annie Lee Bates, Leesburg; three daughters, Mrs. Ernestine Merchant, Ridgeland, Mrs. Ailene Squires, Canton, and Mrs. Paulette Black, Jackson; his mother, Mrs. T.D. Bates, Leesburg; eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter; one sister, Mrs. Ruby Lee Waltman, Leesburg; one brother, Paul Bates, Leesburg; and several nieces and nephews.
