Amanda Campbell Trauger was born in Nockamixon Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, on March 26, 1859, the daughter of Joseph Klein Trauger and Sarah Campbell. On January 29, 1876, she married in Leithsville, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, Milton Deemer Ruth, son of Peter Shaffer Ruth and Lucy Ann Deemer. After living in Bucks County the first 25 years of their marriage, Milton and Amanda moved to Hellertown, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, where they lived the remainder of their lives. They were the parents of 5 children: William Howard, Charles T., Harry Trauger, Mary Louisa and Sarah Mabel Ruth. In her later years, Amanda was called "Grammy Ruth" by her family members. After Milton died in 1940, she moved in with her daughter (my great-grandmother), Mary Louisa Ruth Bachman and her family. They lived on the other side of Main Street in Hellertown, just a couple of blocks away. She taught my mother (her great-granddaughter) how to play Solitaire. She died at the age of 85 years on November 3, 1944, and is buried with her husband in the Hellertown Union Cemetery, close to where she spent the last 43 years of her life.
