FLOYD ACKER, 83, DIES AT HOSPITAL
Floyd Acker, 83, of 235 North Third Street , retired Decatur businessman, died at 8:45 p.m. Sunday at the Parkview Memorial hospital, Fort Wayne , where he had been a patient for the past nine days.
Mr. Acker was owner and operator of Acker Burial Vaults for many years before retiring in 1946.
Born in Van Wert, O. Sept. 4, 1888, he was a son of Samuel and Rose Roop - Acker. His first wife, the former Zona Suman, died in 1948, and he was married to Laura O. Eicher who survives, in 1950.
Mr. Acker was a member of the First United Methodist church, Decatur lodge 571 F & AM, the Scottish Rite and Mizpah Shrine at Fort Wayne and the Decatur Elks lodge. He had been president of the Decatur Cemetery association since 1954 and was a former city street commissioner in Decatur .
Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Pauline Heffner and Mrs. Jack (Kathleen) Eady, both of Decatur, two stepsons, Clois Eicher of Decatur, and Donn (sic) Eicher of Fort Wayne, one stepdaughter, Mrs. Henry (Nina) Brown of Fort Wayne, three grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and four step great-grandchildren. Two brothers are deceased.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Winteregg-Linn funeral home, with Rev. Harold Leininger officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday until time of the services. Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
