Memorial services for Dorothy Ann (Melland) Huntsman, 68, Hutchinson, were held Saturday, June 17, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel with Father Brian J. Egan officiating.
Mrs. Huntsman died Monday, June 12, 2000, at her home.
She was born Oct. 14, 1931, in Casper, Wyoming, the daughter of Con Melland and Madeline (Martegani) Melland. She was a longtime Hutchinson resident.
She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1949 and earned a master's degree in creative writing from Wichita State University in 1984.
Mrs. Huntsman had been a reporter for the San Angelo (Texas) Standard-Times and for the Hutchinson News, under the byline Dorothy Melland, before retiring.
She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Democratic Women's Club, Contemporary Literary Class of the Hutchinson Public Library, Hutchinson Art Association, Dillon Nature Center, Audubon Society and Nature Conservancy.
She married Bernard William Brown in September 1950 at Lawton, Oklahoma. They divorced in 1975.
She married Frank A. Huntsman on Oct. 14, 1977, in Hutchinson. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Jefferson Melland Brown, Pinedale, Wyo.; three daughters, Regan Marie Brown, Austin, Texas; Rebecca Pyle, Salina, and Cordelia Brown, Eudora; a brother, Robert Con Melland, Denver, Colo.; a sister, Mary Alice Melland, Green Valley, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.
