Born December 16, 1919 in South Cottonwood (present-day Murray) to John Taylor and Louise Dahl Barrett. Soren grew up working on the family Dairy Farm learning to work long and hard at a very early age. Attended the University of Utah and received a 2nd Lieutenant Commission after graduating from ROTC and entered military service in the Field Artillery in June 1942. Entered US Army Air Force January 1944 and flew 22 combat missions over Europe in the 379th Bomb Group as a lead Navigator in B-17s. Received Air Medal and two Oak Leaf clusters for meritorious service. The only Mining Engineer to graduate from the University of Utah with his class in 1946. Married his sweetheart and eternal companion Barbara Jean Wyss on June 14, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. Worked as a Mining Engineer for US Smelting and Refining and as the Mine Engineer for Kennecott Copper retiring as the Senior Project Manager of Underground Mining in 1983. Lifelong active member of LDS Church. His life was devoted to exemplary service to his family and fellow man. Dad and Mom were devoted to each other and dedicated their lives to their children and grandchildren.
Survived by brothers, Theodore (Faye) and Louis (Betty), sons: Dr. Soren J. (Tina) Barrett, Steven (Jana Lee) Barrett; daughters: Barbara A. Barrett, Susan Barrett and eight grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers: Legrand, Taylor, sisters, Charlotte, Ellen and Marion.
A viewing will be held on Monday, August 18, 2008 from 7-9 p.m. at Holladay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 South Highland Drive (1900 East). Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at 12:00 noon. A viewing will be held from 10:30-11:45 prior to the services at the Olympus Stake Center, 4430 South 2700 East.
