1882-1941:Beloved wife, stepmother and mother of Joseph and Martha Burcher(Boyles) and Albert and Ruth Burcher(Tipton). Everyone loved Jessie and her kindness and grace was renown in the Beallsville and Jerusalem areas. She was a fine cook, gardener, quilter, and beloved family and community member. She wrote to daughter Ruth, while Ruth was at Ohio University and we have many of those letters in our family, which tell of her life in Beallsville, Ohio. She was a perfectionistic quilter and produced some lovely quilts. She was a beautiful woman, both inside and out and her son-in-law, Bob Tipton often quipped that he married his Ruthie to get Jessie for a mother-in-law.
She died in her late fifties probably of cancer.
Her mother, Ruth M. Davis Thomas (1844-1896)died when Jessie was age 14. At that time her father was 76 years old. Jessie went to live with the Hinton family around that time as a domestic. Her brother, Winnett, married Lizzie Hinton. She had several brothers, Nathan D. Thomas, Marion Winnet Thomas (Lizzie), Perrin Thomas, Earnest Thomas and sisters Pearl, Luella, Laura and Sarah as well as about 19 half brothers and sisters by her father, Thomas Wesley Thomas and his first wife Martha Ely.
