Emily Danford King Tipton received her nursing degree from Women's Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa. and before her marriage she took care of a young invalid, Ernest Dercum. She married James Bert Tipton and had two children, Mary Elizabeth Tipton Thomas and James Robert Tipton. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and taught S.S. for 50 years at her church. Her faith sustained her through her despair when her husband died a sudden death when their children were only ages 5 and 2. She was a staunch Republican. She had six grandchildren and lived out her life in Jerusalem, Ohio until her last few years which she spent in Ashland, Ohio.
