Robert Henry Cupit, age 73, formerly of Honey Grove, Texas and currently of Plano, Texas, passed away Monday, August 11, 2008 in Plano.

Funeral services will be 2:00P.M. Monday, August 18, 2008 at Shiloh Church of Christ. Mr. Preston Boles will officiate. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Jones, Rodney Lancaster, Michael McGehee, Brandon Jones, Donald Miller, Jeffery Salter and Randy Cupit. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 12:30 to 1:30P.M. Sunday prior to services.

Mr. Cupit was born in Kingsland, Arkansas February 5, 1935. He resided in Plano, TX. from 1976 to 1990 and then he was a Honey Grove resident for ten years. He and his wife, Dawn, moved back to Plano, Tx. in 2001 for health reasons. He is one of five children of Arthur Eugene Cupit and Mary Alice Sisson Cupit. Bob met his wife Dawn Alice Lancaster, in Jacksonville, Florida and married her on May 20, 1960.

Bob retired a U.S. Senior Chief Aviation Technician on June 1, 1985 after serving his country for 25 years. Robert (Bob) has been all over the world. His "sea duty" was performed (1) attached to squadrons aboard aircraft carriers U.S.S. Saratoga out of Mayport, Florida; The U.S.S. Hornet out of North Island, California; The U.S.S. Independence out of Virginia Beach, Virginia and later served ten years at the Naval Air Test Center, Patutuxent River, Maryland (Service Test and VQ-4). He saw "shore duty" at Millington, Tennessee and Naval Air Station Glynco at Brunswick, Georgia and he retired as the Navy liaison at Rockwell International in Richardson, Texas.

Bob has received numerous commendations and campaign medals, unit citations and the Navy Achievement Medal. He was aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga during the civilian evacuation of Lebanon in 1959. Later he was sent to Key West Florida during the Cuban Missile Crisis (Naval Blockade.) Bob spent three years aboard the U.S.S. Hornet in the Pacific during the Viet Nam War.

After retirement, Bob worked for a major defense contractor writing technical manuals, but soon realized his dream of opening a book store, the BOOK NOOK in Plano, Texas. When his wife retired they moved to Honey Grove permanently.

He was a member of MENSA, the Honey Grove Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion, the Fleet Reserve and the Shiloh Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Eugene Cupit and Mary Alice Sisson Cupit and one sister, Arthur Marie Pinckard, all of Arkansas.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dawn Alice Lancaster Cupit, of the home, daughter; Roberta (Robyn) Joan Baker of Plano, TX. daughter, Cynthia Ann McGehee and husband, Michael of Allen, TX. son, Joseph Randell Cupit of Plano, TX. and sister, Frankie Ann Kimbrell of Thornton, Arkansas; sister, Billie Frisby and husband Billy of Oklahoma City, OK.; and sister, Laverne Vaughan and husband, Glynn of Camden, Arkansas. He is also survived by three grandchildren; Amanda Nicole Baker, Audrey Michelle Evans and husband, Thomas Evans; and Corey Danielle Evans all of Allen, TX.
