U.S. Congressman. Born the son of Congressman William Hiester, he graduated from Yale College in 1842, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1845 and commenced to practice law in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He was district attorney for Lancaster County, (1848-51) and elected as a Whig to the Thirty-third Congress, serving (1853-55). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death.
