Ebenezer M. Cunningham and his wife Amanda had previously lived in Suisun Valley in Solano County.

They were charter members of the Methodist Church in Saratoga and active in building the community.

Mr. Cunningham was a trustee of Madronia Cemetery and instrumental in the formation of a cemetery district.

His son, Charles, wrote a complete history of Madronia Cemetery in 1961 and is also remembered for his early participation in founding the Men's Club in 1921 which then aided young boys in Saratoga. The Cunningham daughter, Florence, was educated as a teacher with an avocation in historical research on the Santa Clara Valley. She served as chair of the history and landmarks committee of the Saratoga Foothill Club and was instrumental in forming the Saratoga Historical Foundation in 1960.

Her legacy to the Saratoga community was her book Saratoga's First Hundred Years, published in 1967.
