Gerald Austin Stanley, 84 of Decatur, passed away at 9 pm Saturday, December 1, 2007 in Decatur Memorial Hospital, with family at his side.

Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Gerald's life will be held at 9:30 am Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, presided by the Very Reverend James O'Shea. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 Tuesday at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home with Vigil Prayer Services at 5 pm. Interment with the 'Flight Home' ceremony will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to St. Thomas Catholic Church and the Good Samaritan Inn in Gerald's memory. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com

Gerald was born on June 3, 1923 in Decatur a son of Floyd Charles and Nora Vivian (Clabaugh) Stanley. He was retired supervisor for Mueller Company and a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Gerald was an excellent woodworker. He married Loretta 'Maxine' Fleming on February 11, 1942. They celebrated over 65 years together before she passed away on July 13, 2007. He was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather.

Surviving are his sons: Gerald Stanley and his wife Connie of Decatur, Galen Stanley and his wife Patsye of St. Charles, MO, and Mark Stanley and his wife Nancy of Decatur, daughters: Carol Groves of Bloomington, and Debbie Buxton and her husband Robert of Decatur, brother Wayne Stanley and his wife Helen of Decatur, eighteen grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two grandchildren: Brenda Snow and Dennis Stanley and his son-in-law Jack Groves.
