John L. Brasher served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He was wounded in the hip by a bullett and had to return home. Upon his departure from the Army, General Morgan gave him the rifle that had been issued to him. He was offered a pension. However, he refused saying, "I served in the Army for my country.
