Mrs. LAURA COOK PASSES AWAY

Laura Jane Lantz, daughter of Samuel & Betty Lantz was born August 21st, 1856 at Parkville,Mo. Her father passed away the next spring. She with her mother and three brothers came to Pottawatomie County, Kansas in 1862, remaining three years, then going back to Clark County Iowa, then coming back to Westmoreland in her 16th year. Living on her Grandfather's Cook's farm where she met Orson Trowbridge from Beloit, Mitchell County, Kansas to whom she was married on May 23rd, 1875, making that her home for seven years; lived a short time in Wellington. then came back to Pottawatomie County to make her home. In 1889 her husband passed away after an illness of many years leaving her with four small children to rear alone which she did with much self-denial and loving kindness which will never be forgotten by her children who loved her so dearly, living here until 1905 when she moved to Wakeeney, Trego County, Kansas. On August 11, 1920, she was married to George Franklin Cook, living in Wilson County four years, going to Quinter, in 1925. Mr Cook passed away in 1932. Since then she has made her home with her children spending most of her time with her daughter, Mrs. Henry Hartman, near her old home.
She was converted and united with the church when a young woman. Was a faithful follower of her Saviour, attending services as long as she was able. She leaves to mourn her two sons and two daughters, Will Trowbridge of Grainfield, Kansas., Mrs. Edna Hartman, Fostoria, Mrs. Ella Robinson, Peabody, and Homer Trowbridge, Coffeyville; twenty-five grandchildren and thirty-seven great grandchildren and many other friends by whom she will be greatly missed, for to know her, was to love her.
She was the last of her immediate family to pass to the Great Beyond, having lived a long and useful life, passing away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ed Robinson of Peabody, Saturday morning, June 17,1939, at the age of 82 years, 9 months, and 27 days.
Funeral services were held at Fostoria, Kansas, M.E. church, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, by A.C. Tudor. He sung the song, "Saved by Grace" at the request of the family. He preached her mother's funeral 35 years ago. The song, "Shall we gather at the River" was sung then also. She was laid to rest beside her husband Orson Trowbridge in the King Cemetery.

On August 11th 1920 when Laura Jane was 63, she married second Dr. George Franklin Cook DVM in Wakeeney, Trego Co. Kansas. Certificate of Marriage Record on file.. Born on Nov. 19 1859 in Putman Co. Mo. George Franklin died in Quinter, Kansas on Jan 10th, 1932: he was 72. Buried in Westmoreland Cemetery, Westmoreland,Kansas
