Georgia Brown was born October 7, 1923, in Malaga, NM to Lela and Arley L. Moritzky, and died August 8, 2008, in Clovis, NM. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1942, and went on to attend nursing school in Lubbock, TX for nine months. She transferred to the Regina School of Nursing at St. Joseph Hospital in Albuquerque where she completed her training. During the time she was in school, Georgia attended the First Baptist Church and was baptized there. In 1946, she came to Clovis and worked at the Clovis Memorial Hospital. A year later she became the office nurse for Dr. H. O. Lehman in Portales.
In 1950, Georgia was on the original staff of the OB Dept. at the newly opened Roosevelt General Hospital. On August 11, 1951, she married Charley Brown, and went into "retirement." During that time, she did some special duty nursing with polio patients, but in 1952, she returned to Dr. Lehman's office. Georgia worked for Dr. H. O. Lehman and then Dr. Charles Lehman until December 1996 when she officially retired. Her entire lifetime was dedicated to public service. Georgia loved her profession, and during her long career, helped in the delivery of thousands of children. Georgia and her husband, Charley, worked many years doing hunter safety training for children and helping them to have a love for the outdoors. As long as her health would permit, she could be seen on her daily walks around town. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Georgia is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Douglas White of Beckworth, CA; 4 grandchildren, Karen Demery, Edene Richard, Kathy Williamson and Rachel Fox; two sisters, Frances Strange and Louise Smith both of Portales; a brother, Virgil Jones of Carlsbad, NM; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Nancy Belle Moritzky who died as an infant, and her beloved husband, Charley, who died January 21, 2000.
