He was raised in Young County, Texas near Olney from age 10 by his grandparents, Oscar and Mary Andrew. He graduated from Olney High School in 1934.

He and Wilhelmina Mann were married 11 January 1941 at Devine, Texas.

After enlisting in the US Army Air Corps in 1939, he served at many locations including Okinawa and France. After his retirement in 1967, he returned to Texas and earned a degree in Engineering Science from the University of Texas in 1975. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survived by his wife; five sons; two daughters; his aunt - Mrs. Mary Guimarin and one cousin - Joe C. Andrew, both of Olney.
