W.H. Chapman, son of Acquilla and Freelove Chapman was born, Nov. 13, 1845 near Bedford, Ind. Moved with his parents to Green, Co., Ind. at the age of four years where he lived to the age of 20 years, and moved with his parents to Cumberland, County, Ill. in 1873. He was married to Emma Gooch at Toledo, Ill. To this union ten children were born, four died in infancy, the remaining six lived to be grown. In 1875 he moved to Nebr., and took up a homestead on the old Fort Kearney reservation, lived there five years and from there moved to Sherman Co., and bought a quarter section of land on clear creek, near Litchfield in 1880 where they lived for 22 years, until the death of Mrs. Chapman, April 29th, 1912. Then he went to Cumberland County, Ill., and was married to Sarah Black, Feb. 10, 1917, where he lived for six years on her farm near the Webster schoolhouse near Janesville, Ill., where he died on Tuesday, September 11, 1923, of Brights disease at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 28 days. He leaves to mourn his loss six children, Ross Chapman, of Bayard, Nebr., Robert Chapman, of Los Angles, Calif., Edith Brown, of Bishop, Calif., Lea Heapy, of McKitrick, Calif., Ruth Workman, of Sheridan, Wyo., and Harvey Chapman of Taft, Calif., and his wife, Sarah Black Chapman, of Janesville, Ill., besides a host of friends and relatives.

The funeral was held at the Christian Church at Litchfield at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14.

Rev. E.C. Kemble officiating the services. The Masonic lodge conducted the services at the grave. Interment was made in the Litchfield Cemetery.
