From local history book "Where the Prairie Meets the Hills" page 303-305 ( history of the Akerman family told by Carrie Akerman to Daphne Kerr.)

"My husband, Robert William Akerman, born August 21, 1888 and I, Carrie Paget, born December 13, 1885, were both born in Bromham, Wiltshire County, England. I was one of 15 children, twelve of whom grew to adulthood, went to work at age 14 and lived part time in London. Early in 1913 Bill and I arrived in Edmonton for a week or so and then filed on land sixteen miles south of Veteran. Bill worked for a time in Botha and then in November we went back to Veteran. Baby Daphne had been born in August and I held her all the way. We stayed at Art Hughes place while our one room shack was built. There wasn't much money and we were very lucky to have parents, brothers and sisters who sent Christmas parcels with clothes, cakes, puddings and games. However, hard times were ahead. Low prices and dry years forced our family to move to St. Albert. Later we bought a farm at Namao where we farmed until we retired and moved to Edmonton. Our first baby Daphne was born at Botha. She married Myles Kerr and lives near Calahoo. Our oldest boy Gordon Roy died in 1917 at the age of fifteen months. He is buried near the Lawrence School in a little cemetery. Colin was born in 1919 and married Jeannette Smallwood in 1951. Gordon was our Christmas Day present in 1920. He married Janet Harrold in 1952. My husband passed away suddenly, September 7, 1975 and is buried at the Namao Cemetery."
