PEQUOT LAKES -- Laura Maine, age 90, of Pequot Lakes, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at her home. She was born Oct. 23, 1913, in Albert Lea, Minn., to John and Bertina Nelson.

She married Hiram Maine on March 20, 1930, in Walker. Laura was a charter member of Pleasant Hill Community Church and acted as treasurer of the Pleasant Hill Missionary Society. She was active in various activities at Pleasant Hill Community Church, which included teaching Sunday school for 40 years. She was famous for her baking and for serving meals to whoever stopped at her home. She enjoyed making quilts, afghans and embroidering pillowcases for her family and many others.

Survivors include her six children, Horton (Jackie) of Nisswa; Dale (Betty) of Amboy, Minn.; Westal (Marian) of Pequot Lakes; Boyd (Adelia) of Fridley; Albert (Ruth) of Pequot Lakes; and Carol Hines of Ellsworth, Wis.; 23 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is also survived by her eight adopted grandchildren -- the children of Bob and Elna Swanson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hiram; son-in-law, Bill Hines; granddaughter, Diane Hines; six brothers; and two sisters.

Services will be 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16, at Pleasant Hill Community Church, rural Pequot Lakes with Pastors Howard Reed and Leo Belanger officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at Kline Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.
