With his family he left Georgia in the days following the American Civil War, and following homesteading efforts on Sauk Lake the Dimonds branched out to various locations throughout Minnesota and, later, the American West. His wife Jane Elizabeth Love (8 Sep 1849 at The Forks Plantation, Somerset County, Maine - 4 Jul 1936 at Burtrum, Todd County, Minnesota) is buried with him.
