General George Thurston of Hopkinton, Rhode Island was the son of George and Keziah Thurston of Hopkinton. He was born there in 1741. Married first to Dolly Cottrell on Feb. 22, 1766; she died Oct. 21, 1789, aged 42. He married second Mrs. Sarah Rathbun who died Sept. 19, 1817, aged 64. He was a merchant and was connected with Sullivan's expedition in revolutionary times. He died Nov. 30, 1827, aged 86. He had seven children with his first wife and two with his second:

(1) Jeremiah - born May 29, 1768; married Sarah Babcock, daughter of Rowse Babcock of Westerly, R.I. He was a successful merchant, lieutenant-governor of Rhode Island.
(2) Mary - born Jan. 2, 1770; married March 28, 1788 to Benjamin Taylor, a hatter in Hopkinton, R.I.; she died Sept. 13, 1808; no children.
(3) Nathaniel - born July 16, 1772; married Mary Whitman; He was a saddler in Exeter, R.I.; died April 14, 1824.
(4) Fanny - born October 4, 1774; married Joseph Spicer, a hotel keeper in Hopkinton; she died Aug. 18, 1795; no children.
(5) Susan - born July 18, 1777; died single, Feb. 9, 1847.
(6) Nancy - born March 28, 1780; died single, June 25, 1848.
(7) George - born April 26, 1783; died Feb. 4, 1828.
(8) Sarah - born June 17, 1793; married Aug. 29, 1813 to Russell Clarke, a farmer in Newport, R.I. She died Oct. 12, 1814 having had daughter Sarah Elizabeth, born June 10, 1814.
(9) Fanny - born March 27, 1798; married July 11, 1826 to Daniel Deshon, a retired gentleman in New London, Conn. She died Nov. 23, 1833.
