William Coleman White was the oldest son of Thomas Allen and Sarah (Coleman) White, who were originally from Laurens Co., SC. The White family moved to Georgia some time in 1827.

On 29 February 1836, probably in DeKalb County, William married Ann Morris, daughter of James and Nancy Morris. The couple made their home in Henry County where they had the following children: Mary Ann (White) Clark, John Wilburn white, James T. Marion White, Nancy Jane (White) South, Sarah Almedia (White) Callaway, William Renly White, Frances E. E. White, and Morris Coleman White.

William was a member of the Primitive Baptist church at Flat Shoals in Henry County.
