Palmer resident Vivian Mildred (Lindquist) Smith, 92, died Jan. 24, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minn. She was recently vacationing in Minnesota with family. A celebration of life service and visitation took place at the United Protestant Church of a Thousand Trees, 713 Denali St., in Palmer.

Mrs. Smith born Dec. 1, 1911, in Walter, Minn., to Victor and Amanda (Martinson) Lindquist. She was baptized July 14 ,1912, at a Lutheran church in Mans-field, Minn. When she was 2, her family moved to Princeton, Minn., where she grew up on a farm. She was confirmed Aug. 14, 1927, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Princeton. Mrs. Smith attended school in Baldwin township and graduated from Princeton High School in 1929. She married Alwyn Smith on March 9, 1930, and lived in Princeton until 1932. In 1940, they came to Alaska. Mrs. Smith was a lifetime member of Pioneers of Alaska, International Clerks Union and the Igloo Club, and a Red Cross volunteer and Sunday school teacher and director. She enjoyed traveling, and later in life, crocheting, which won her many ribbons at the Alaska State Fair. She also loved visiting with family and friends.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Audrey Smith of Mora, Minn.; daughter, Muriel Cotter of Palmer; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brother, Roy Lindquist of Princeton; sister, Phyllis Nyberg of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; and many other friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alwyn Smith; son, Richard Smith; daughter-in-law, Bobbie; grandson, Lincoln; granddaughter, Terri; one brother; one sister; and son-in-law, Herman Cotter. Arrangements were by Williams-Hansen-Kaun Funeral Home in Princeton.
