Horace Johnson died at his home in Blue Hill on Dec. 9 of old age. He would have been 88 years old on Christmas day. He leaves a wife and five children, Frank Johnson of Winona county, Mrs. Kate Townsend of Great Falls, Montana, Mrs. Bessie Barneka of Blue Hill, James Johnson of Princeton, and Mrs. Myrtle Strangler of Bremerten, Washington, nineteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Horace M. Johnson was born in Erie, New York, in 1821, and spent a portion of his younger days in Wisconsin, but the larger part of his life in Minnesota. He was a civil war veteran, having served in the First Minnesota Mounted Rangers and the First Minnesota Infantry, and a generous open-hearted man who had many friends. The funeral took place on Dec. 11 and the remains were buried in Blue Hill cemetery.

Horace was a butcher in Mpls, but for the most part farmed.

Married to Eliza Fellows on 10/18/1858, at Central Point, Goodhue Co. Eliza went to Washington state after his death to live with their youngest daughter. Eliza died was buried in Bremerton, Washington.
