Virginia Leigh Pickering, 80, of Lancaster, Ohio, died Monday, August 4, 2008, at The Pickering House.

She was a gradusate of the Ohio State Unversity. She also was a champion golfer whose geneerosity shall impact the lives of our community for years to come. She was a well-known benefactress for many Lancaster, Ohio and Fairfield County, Ohio organizations.

She had made extraordinary contributions to the betterment of health care in Lancaster, Ohio through her gifts for The Pickering House, a free-standing hospice facility, in memory of her parents, Dan and Grace Pickering, as an on going supporter of Fairfield Medical Center, and a former board member of the Fairfield County Health Foundation.

She also facilitated the massive facelift of the women's locker room at the Robert K Fox Family Y. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and thre American Cancer Society.

She is survived by nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dan Leslie and Grace Pickering; brother, Dan Leigh Pickering; and sisters, Nanciann McCormick and Betty J. Andres.

Services will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, Lancaster, Ohio, with the Rev. Bill Pursley officiating.

Interment will follow in Forest Rose Cemetery, Lancaster, Ohio.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
