KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Jovita Hernandez (Riojas) Mendez, 85, Kansas City, passed away on May 13, 2008.
She was born on Dec. 18, 1922, in Horton, Kan., to Juan and Albina Hernandez.
In 1939, the family moved to Kansas City, Kan., where she met and married Rogue Riojas Sr.
She later married Joaquin Mendez.
Jovita was a certified nurse's aide for over 25 years at St. Margaret's Providence Hospital in Kansas City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joaquin Mendez; seven brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include four daughters, Irene, Connie, Martha and Cathy; two sons, Roque Jr. and Juan; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Fermin L. Hernandez of St. Joseph; and numerous nieces and nephews.
After cremation, she will be inured at Mount Olivet Cemetery in St. Joseph. A private service will follow.
