Mr. Allison was born April 26, 1929, in Wakefield, R.I. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Miami and attended graduate school at the University of Connecticut.
He worked as a marine biologist with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources from 1960 to 1994.
Mr. Allison served in the Coast Guard from 1951 to 1953 on the Unimack.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Annapolis, where he served as a deacon and youth adviser.
He enjoyed fishing, boating and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Meredith H. Allison; two sons, James T. Allison Jr. of Severna Park and Mark S. Allison of Cape St. Claire; one daughter, Cheryl L. McNerney of Severna Park; two sisters, Nancy Robinson of Block Island, R.I., and Constance Allison of Cranston, R.I.; and five grandchildren.
