Robert Keith Lance was born March 15, 1907 near Hardy, Nuckolls County, Nebraska. His parents were 24-year-old William Ross Lance and 24-year-old Daisy Mae (Membery) Lance.

In 1925, Robert graduated from Hardy High School.

On April 28, 1936, Robert Lance married Dagmar Andersen in Jefferson County, Nebraska. They eventually became the parents of two daughters.

On April 16, 1940, Keith R. Lance was a 33-year-old farmer living with his 30-year-old wife, Dagmar N., and their 2-year-old daughter, Connie Lea Lance. They were lodging with Keith's parents, Ross W. Lance (age 57) and Daisy M. Lance (age 57) in Hardy Township, Nuckolls County, Nebraska. The 1940 Nebraska federal census also shows Keith was born in Nebraska, he had a 4-year high school education, he had lived in the same house on April 1, 1935, he had worked 72 hours during the last week of March 1940, he had worked 52 weeks in 1939, and he had no other source of income.

On May 11, 1984, Robert Keith Lance passed away in Superior, Nuckolls County, Nebraska at age 77. He was laid to rest at Hardy City Cemetery in Hardy in Nuckolls County.

Robert Lance's obituary reads: "Hardy man, Keith Lance died in Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital, Friday, May 11, at the age of 77 years, 1 month and 26 days. The funeral was Monday at 2 p.m., at the Hardy Union Church. Pastor Kenneth Fairbrother and the Rev. Danny Jackson officiated. The Masonic Ceremony was by Superior Lodge No. 121, A.F. an A.M. Interment was in the Hardy Cemetery. The Williams Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Robert Keith Lance was born March 15, 1907, to Ross and Daisy Membery Lance on a farm north of Hardy. He attended Churchill rural school and was a 1925 graduate of Hardy High School. April 28, 1936, he was united in marriage to Dagmar Andersen. To this union two daughters were born. They lived on a farm near Hardy until his retirement 10 years ago. Survivors include his wife, Dagmar; two daughters, Mrs. Paul Otter (Connie) of Boise, Idaho, and Mrs. Gene Dondlinger (Judy), Shickley; sister, Mrs. Ralph Andersen (Elaine), Sheffield, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jill and Paul Keith Otter and Ted, Sam and Micki Dondlinger; and many other relatives. He was a member of the Union Church, Hardy, a member of the Superior Elks Lodge and of the Masonic Fraternity, including Superior Lodge, No. 121, A.F. and A.M., Tadmore Chapter, Damacus Council, Palmyra and Tehama Shrine."
