Deceased was universally respected as a citizen and noted for his honesty and uprightness as a Christian. He followed the Savior for many years, in whom he trusted to the last and longed to be with Him, especially since the death of his companion and only daughter. Although comforted by the attention of his children, he was anxious to fall asleep in Jesus and on his casket was appropriately engraved: "Asleep in Jesus." The funeral services were conducted in the Christian Chapel by M.S. Blair, assisted by William A. Ridge. The text of the sermon was from the 37th Psalm, 37th verse: Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.
Additional information: son of Susannah Gould and Freeman Brady, he married Mary Locke 10 May 1832. They had seven children: Sylvester Wesley, Joseph, Freeman, John L., Enoch (died before he was three), Harriet, and Andrew.
