Died in Beech Creek Township at the residence of his son Joseph on January 21st, 1885, James Brady aged 79 years, 9 months, and 20 days. Brother Brady lived in this section about thirty years. He moved his family from Liberty Township, Tioga County, Pa., to Illinois, and after residence there of two and a half years, came back to Pa. and Beech Creek, this county, where [he lived] until eleven years since [he had] moved to Eagleville and lived there until the death of his wife two years ago. He then returned to Beech Creek where he passed away.
Deceased was universally respected as a citizen and noted for his honesty and uprightness as a Christian. He followed the Savior for many years, in whom he trusted to the last and longed to be with Him, especially since the death of his companion and only daughter. Although comforted by the attention of his children, he was anxious to fall asleep in Jesus and on his casket was appropriately engraved: "Asleep in Jesus." The funeral services were conducted in the Christian Chapel by M.S. Blair, assisted by William A. Ridge. The text of the sermon was from the 37th Psalm, 37th verse: Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.
Additional information: son of Susannah Gould and Freeman Brady, he married Mary Locke 10 May 1832. They had seven children: Sylvester Wesley, Joseph, Freeman, John L., Enoch (died before he was three), Harriet, and Andrew.
