Mary Ann See was the eldest daughter born to James (1796-1863) and Eleanor See (1803-1875), she was raised on the family farm in the Big Creek Township, Pleasant Hill, Cass County, Missouri. Mary Ann was born in 1838, the first of four known children, her siblings being Rebecca, b.1844, Fleming, b.1846, and James, b.1848, all of Missouri. She met Augustus Winn Davidson, son of Jacob Ellis (1801-1884) and Mary Bowles (Winn) (1804-1883) Davidson, who had been born in 1829 while his family (of 10 children) was living in Kentucky. His family was living in Washington, Jackson County, Missouri in 1850. Both families were of farming heritage and were aware of the land that had become available out West. Augustus and Mary Ann married in Missouri, settling nearby her parents at the Big Creek Township, Pleasant Hill, Cass County, Missouri on a farm valued at $1500 when the 1860 Census was taken on Feb 1st, 1860. Mary Ann had become a mother for the 1st time, bearing a son in 1858 whom they named William Winn Davidson. Augustus's parents and siblings had left for California in 1852 and sent back letters telling of the weather and beauty of the little town of Santa Rosa in Sonoma County. Mary Ann's father passed away in 1863, leaving her mother a widow with a farm to handle, so they combined their households with Eleanor, who had a farm hand also living at the farm. Mary Ann had become a mother again in 1861, having another son they had named Smith Ellis Davidson. Both children were attending school when the 1870 Census was taken on Aug 5, 1870. Another child, possibly a niece of Eleanor's was also in the home that day. Her name was Pennice Graham, and she was b.1861, in Missouri. Mary Ann's mother, Eleanor See, died Dec 15th, 1875, and was buried at Union Baptist Church's Cemetery, at Pleasant Hill, Cass County, Missouri, by her beloved husband, James. The next Spring, the Davidson family relocated to Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, California so they could be near Augustus's parents and extended family. Sadly, Mary Ann passed from this life on Jan 22nd, 1878, at the age of 39 years. Augustus buried her at Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery, Sonoma County, California. He would continue to farm the land he had claimed upon arriving in California until he followed her in death 24 years later. He is also buried at the Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery in Sonoma Co., California.
