Mr. John A Mayo died at his home at Cades Monday night from the infirmities of old age. He was nearly 72 years of age and had never had a doctor in his life until this spell of sickness, which only lasted a few days.
Mr. Mayo was a farmer and a good citizen. He was a deacon in the Oakwood Baptist Church and throughout the latter years of his life he had been one of the prominent leaders in that church and his community.
He leaves a wife and six children, four daughters, Mrs. Charlie Cole, Mrs. Olyn Walker, Mrs. Carl Bailey, of near Milan, and Miss Earlie Mayo of Union City, two sons, Jim and Otha Mayo. He is also survived by one brother, Joe Mayo, of Gann.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Oakwood church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Guy Turner, assisted by Rev. H.J. Huey. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery here, with Bodkin & Company in charge.
