Elisha Berryman Adams is the son of Elizabeth Smith and Hodge Rayburn Adams.

Elisha Berryman Adams was born in Dickson County, Tennessee. In 1839, when Elisha was 16, Hodge Adams brought his family to Harrison County, Texas. Elisha and Hodge both received Republic of Texas land grants.

On February 20, 1845, Elisha married Nancy Ann Collins in Harrison County, Texas. In 1850 Elisha bought land in Grand Cane, Louisiana, and the couple "moved to be near Nancy's family."

Their children, from censuses, are daughter L H (born about 1847 in Texas), Hodge Rayburn, Elizabeth J, William Thomas, Samuel, Howell Calvin, Joe Ward, C. B., and Robert C. In 1880 E. B. and Nancy were head of household that included J. W., 18; C. B., 16; R. C., 11; and Williams Hicks, 20. Living next door were H. R. Adams, 31, his wife E. A., and children F. A. and Callie. Several of Elisha and Nancy's children moved back to Texas, to Shelby County, in 1897.

Elisha owned a plantation and cotton gin in Louisiana. Nancy died in 1901 and Elisha died June 21, 1906. Both are buried in Old Friendship Cemetery.
