Violet L. (Ward) Conti, 87, of Plum Borough, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Concordia Ridgewood Place. She was born Sept. 16, 1920, in Braddock, a daughter of the late Joseph and Nettie Switzer Christian. She was self-employed, having worked in the restaurant business. She was a past member of Unity Community Church. She was an avid gardener and collected antiques. She inspected aircraft during World War II. Survivors include her sons, David (Eileen) Ward, of Fort Worth, Texas, John (Janet) Ward, of North Huntingdon, and James Conti, of Plum Borough; daughter, Sherry (Richard) Kudranski, of Plum Borough; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marie Kiser, of Penn Hills, and Louise Christian, of Pittsburgh. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Conti; a grandson; brothers, David and Percy Christian; and sisters, Mildred Christian and Vera Steinmetz. Friends are being received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the STEPHEN P. DOLENCE JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., 1519 Renton Road, Plum Borough, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday by the Rev. Frank DeLuce, pastor of Unity Community Church. Burial will be in Plum Creek Cemetery.

Those who knew and loved Violet admired her bravery and forthrightness.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, and grandson Jerry Marvin Ward.
