Gary Russell Loomis was born July 18, 1942, in Cle Elum, Wash., to Glenn and Rose Mance Loomis. He attended grade schools in Montana and graduated from Three Forks (Mont.) High School in 1961.

He served in the Army from 1961 to 1964, which included a tour in Southeast Asia.

He married Barbara J. Bateson July 1, 1967, in Clarkston.

He graduated from Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston with a bachelor's degree. He then spent seven years teaching eighth-grade science in Weiser, Idaho.

In 1976 he returned to Clarkston and began working for Potlatch Corp. Wood Products Division until he began working as a forklift operator for the company.

Loomis was a member of Valley Christian Center in Lewiston.

He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, especially taking trips to the Blue Mountains. His hobbies also included restoring old cars, going to classic car shows and riding motorcycles with his daughter.

Survivors include his wife at their Clarkston home; a daughter, Lori A. Loomis-Chapman of Clarkston; and a brother, Ron Loomis of Goldendale, Wash.

A graveside service is scheduled at 3 p.m. Friday at Vineland Cemetery in Clarkston. Military honors will be presented by the VFW Post No. 1443 of Clarkston. The Rev. Dennis Noble of Valley Christian Center in Lewiston will officiate. Merchant Funeral Home of Clarkston is in charge of arrangements.
