Anna May Branch Courtney Lincoln

Anna May Branch Courtney Lincoln entered the next life at Clarkston Care Center Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, surrounded by family.

She was born on a homestead near Opheim, Mont., to Joseph and Lizzie Henry Bruch May 28, 1917. She attended a one-room school through eighth grade.

The family moved to the Flathead Valley in 1931, where she worked as a caregiver at times. It was there she met Sherwood S. (Curly) Branch. They were married in Kalispell, Mont., April 18, 1936. They started their family in a slab house at Flathead Mine. They stayed there until spring of 1942 when they moved to Asotin. He died March 4, 1979. She married A.G. (Mick) Courtney May 28, 1980. He passed away in January 1993. She married Wilton Lincoln Aug. 15, 1993. He died March 19, 2000.

Anna had employment in several areas in her lifetime. She was owner-operator of Adley's Cafe in Asotin during the 1950s. She spent a term as president of the Chamber of Commerce, a position basically denied women at that time. After leaving the restaurant business she had several employers, including Omark, Inc. and Twin City Foods.

Anna, lovingly known by many as Gramma Ann, was a lifetime member of the Asotin United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Asotin Needlecraft Club, Clarkston Moose Lodge and Lewiston Eagles Auxiliary. Her interests included bowling, watching baseball, crochet and needlecrafts. She had made old-fashioned sock monkeys for all her grandchildren and most of her great-grandchildren.

Survivors include one son, Glen and Darlene Branch; three daughters, Karen and Tom Stewart, Doris and Clint Carlyle, all of the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley, and Edith Wight of St. Maries, Idaho; 12 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren; five stepchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; seven siblings; three husbands; and a son-in-law, R. Dusty Wight.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Merchant Funeral Home in Clarkston, with the Rev. Randy Cox officiating. Dinner will follow at the United Methodist Church in Clarkston.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Merchant Funeral Home.
