Ethel Adelle Blankinship, a 101-year-old resident of the area since 1945, died Wednesday at Tri-State Memorial Hospital of the infirmities of age. She was a resident of Orchards Villa Nursing Home.

She lived most of her life as a homemaker on farms in the Midwest and Washington State.

She was born in New Albia, Iowa, on Nov. 24, 1879, the daughter of George W. Houghland and Antonette Houghland.

She grew up in Little Turkey, Iowa, and taught school for one term at a school near her home.

She moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to attend Cedar Falls Normal School. She was a member of what was at the time the world's largest all-woman band.

In 1906, she came to Republic, Wash., with several brothers and sisters seeking land under the Homestead Act. She filed for a homestead and married Harland C. Adkins on Feb. 6, 1907, in Republic.

In 1917, the family moved to a farm near Rice. They moved to Clarkston and retired in 1945. He died four years later.

She married Roy Blankinship in Clarkston on Aug. 30, 1950. He died in 1968 and she moved to Cambridge to be near her daughter. She entered Orchards Nursing home in 1972.

She was a member of the Clarkston Assembly of God Church and attended both in Lewiston and Clarkston.

Survivors include a daughter, Ermyn Cavans, Lewiston; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sob.
