Orval's early work experience was in the lumber industry in Lyle Washington. He married Della Frans in 1926 and the couple moved to Middletown in 1928. In 1930 Orval opened an auto repair shop in Middletown until his retirement in 1968. Mr. Brennen was one of he organizers, and a charter member, of the Middletown Volunteer Fire Department that was founded in 1930. He was a member for 25 years and served as fire chief from 1941 to 1946. He also served as the resident deputy sheriff for the Lake County Sheriff's Office from 1941 through 1945. He served as a volunteer deputy for several years after 1945.
Mr. Brennen also served many years on the board of the Middletown Cemetery District, and he was a long time member of the Middletown Luncheon Club. He was a member of he Masonic Lodge for nearly 70 years. He was a 60 year member of the Guenoc Grange.
