His first livery stable was on the ground occupied by the old St. Paul Dispatch Building (now Pioneer Press)on 3rd & Cedar. His 2nd livery stable was on Fifth, between Robert and Minnesota streets. His last livery business was on 8th & Jackson.
In 1868, Dow married Marie Celine Benjamin, a French Canadian immigrant. He met her in St Paul where her family moved after the farmhouse burned down while was her father served in the Civil War. Her father is shown in records as being in the infirmary at Ft Ridgely. Dow was was a horse trader & sold horses to the Army. He could not serve as a soldier due to a club foot condition.
Dow and Mary's only child was Francis Felix Morrison.
Dow became bought a race horse that was raced at the Kitson racetrack.
Dow was a friend to many. One of his Indian friends wrote him a letter shortly before Dow died. It contained greetings from all his friends and gave an update of their doings. He wished Dow life to 100 years and asked for his "receipt" for old age "because when she die, she long time dead and she never come back".
Dow died of cancer (submaxillary - left).
