Mrs. Susan Alsanson, sister of Mrs. M. C. Duncan and aunt of Chas. Duncan, died last night at her sister's home in Ukiah. She had been ill for many months. She was a most estimable woman and during her residence in Ukiah of 6 years has made many friends. Her daughter, Mrs. Lucy Smith, and her sons, S. C. Cornell, will accompany the remains today to Merced, where they will be laid to rest. Mrs. Alsanson was a pioneer of the state, having crossed the plains in 1849.

C. H. Duncan returned last Monday from Merced, whither he went to attend the funeral of his aunt, Mrs. Alsanson. Rev. Moore returned last Monday from Merced. During his absence he preached the funeral service over the remains of Mrs. Alsanson.

Susan came to Coulterville with her parents when she was three years old. She married George W. Cornell there in 1843; he died in 1868. They had four children, only Samuel survived her. She married secondly to Rev. J. M. Alsanson in Coulterville in 1870 and had two more children; only Lucy Smith survived her. She then moved to San Jose, Merced and then Ukiah where she spent her last days.
