Her father was a wealthy grocer in Raleigh, whose fortunes were lost during the Civil War, and later farmed in Oak Grove (near Durham), NC until his death.
Cornelia never married and spent most of her adult life living with her older sister, Lillie Brook Ferrell who had married Hezekiah Pool/Poole, and lived in Clayton, NC. Her older brother, James J. Ferrell, Jr., also lived in Clayton where he was a grocer/merchant.
Cornelia died in 1931, aged 62. She is buried with her sister Lillie Brook Poole and niece, Mildred Poole.
