Arthur Edward Carlisle, age 63, died at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale at 10:25AM Sunday, May 18, 1997. Funeral services will be today, May 21, 1997, at 2PM at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home. The Rev. Roger Teal and the Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Friends may call today from noon until the service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery.
He was born June 26, 1933, in Centralia to Arthur Edward and Flossine (Rosan) Carlisle Hawn.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Herrin and a veteran of the Korean conflict. He was formerly the head of housing for Southern Illinois University at Carbondale VTI, former head of housing for the University of Rhode Island, former director of graduate housing for Columbia Teachers College, former vice president of public relations for Columbia University, formerly worked for the New York City Department of Housing and worked for J.C. Penney in Carbondale in menswear.
Survivors include his mother, of Johnston City; his daughter Pamela Carlisle of Los Angeles; one son, Arthur Carlisle of Los Angeles; one brother, Nolan Carlisle of Streamwood; one sister, Clara Trill of Johnston City; one cousin, Deb Wiggins of Carbondale; and a special friend, Mary Jo Carlisle.
He was preceded in death by one brother, John C. Carlisle, and his father.
