Newspaper article: A Tribute of Love Mr. James A. Harris passed to his heavenly reward after a brief illness in the early morning of Dec. 20th, 1914, at his home near Splunge. He was born Feb. 26th, 1834, he married Mrs. Mary Riggan Nov. 23, 1849. He was a member of one of the oldest and most prominent familes of the state, and was himself a gentleman of sterling quality, character honest, charitable and generous. He leaves a wife and seven boys to mourn his irreparable loss. Weep not, sorrowing ones, your loss is his eter nal gain. The death of this kind hearted patriotic gentleman is mourned not only by wife and children and numerous other near relatives, but by a large circle of friends, citizens and old soldiers whose love and admiration were attracted by hi s many graces of mind and heart. He will be sadly missed not only by his loved ones but by all that knew him for his was one of those beautiful characters that love every one and he was never happier than when giving others. He loved life dear y and put his whole heart into every thing he did whether it was church work ministering to a sick neighbor or entertaining friends in his home. This home he made one of happiness for his wife and children. Bro. Yancy and attended by a host of friends and relatives with beautiful floral offerings, his remains were laid to rest in the Lann cenetary Dec. 21st, there to avail the resurection morning. His going gives us greater interest in heaven. Let us cherish his memory and follow the saviour he trusted, until wife, children, and relatives shall meet again and say Lord, thy will not ours be done. ONE WHO LOVED HIM.
