Caroline was the second wife of Rev. John Thomas Ansley. Caroline and Thomas were wed 5 May 1853, after the death of Mary Redden Ansley. She was the daughter of Reverend J Matthew Singleton and wife Caroline of Sumter County, Georgia. The Ansley's migrated further west and settled in Evergreen near Mount Union, Conecuh County, Alabama. After Thomas death in 1891, Caroline remained in the log cabin she had shared with her husband of thirty-seven years. One cold morning, while building a fire in the cabin, her nightgown ignited and she was engulfed in flames. Reverend Charles Ansley, a descendent of this lineage, was told that where she fell charred the floor and for years the scraped out area, where she fell, was visible. The cabin was still standing until about 1959. Born to Thomas and Caroline were six children (James Bascom, Ellen Lenora, Laura Ann, John Newton, Joel Twitty, and Abel Simpson).
