Charles Cooper Eastland, a private in Capt. Jacob Roberts's Company F of Col. John Coffee Hays' First Regiment, Texas Mounted Rifles, died in Mexico City on December 20, 1847, during the Mexican War.
Charles' uncle, Cpt William Mosby Eastland, was a Texas patriot and officer in the Army of the Republic of Texas. After surrendering in battle with the Mexican Army he was one of 17 soldier prisoners executed under orders of Mexican President Santa Anna.
