Born April 5, 1870 [sic 1878], in Summerfield, La., Atkinson came to Lufkin in 1893. He was a building contractor, a member of the Methodist church and a member of the Woodmen of the World.
Survivors are his wife, four sons, Basil E. Atkinson and Julius Atkinson of Lufkin, and Ben F. Atkinson and Billy M. Atkinson of Rosenburg; four daughters, Mrs. Charles Marberry of Lufkin, Mrs. A. H. Graeter of Houston, Mrs. C. L. McDuffie of Richmond and Mrs. Dan Duncan of Texas City; three brothers, C. S. Atkinson, Dr. E. L. Atkinson and the Rev. J. E. Atkinson, all of Houston; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
