Batesville Tribune - August 9, 1911, Batesville, Indiana

VOL. 10. BATESVILLE. RIPLEY COUNTY. INDIANA. WEDNESDAY. AUGUST 9. 1911. NO. 8.

CALL TO BEYOND

Two Laughery Township Pioneers Die Sunday.

HOYER. Adam Gotlieb Hoyer died at his home, near Steamboat Landlng, on Sunday morning at 8 o'clock. He had not been in the best of health for some time but there was nothing serious in his condition, the immediate cause of his death being dropsy.

Mr. Hoyer was one of the oldest residents in this vicinity and had lived in Laughery township longer than the average life of man. He died at the age of 86 years 2 months and 17 days and the greater number of these years were spent near the scene of his death.

He at one time took an active part in politics and some forty years ago represented this county in the Indiana House of Representatives. Being of a companionable disposition he was well liked by his neighbors among whom he lived for so many years.

Nine children survive him, four sons and five daughters, also a host of grandchildren und great grand children, besides numerous other relatives and friends, who mourn his departure.

Services were held at the house on Tuesday at noon by Rev. Plautz followed by church services at St. Paul's. The remains were interred in the church cemetery.

Undertaker Zierer in charge. Both the services at the home and at the church were well attended by those who desired to pay their last respects to a man who had watched this township grow from a comparative wilderness to a thriving farming community.
