John Gilliam Bernard Born in Petersburg, VA April 2, 1917, died in Wilmington, DE April 21, 1999. Graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1939, served in WWII in North Africa and Europe, Honorable Discharged as Captain in 1945, then employed by DuPont until retirement in 1979. Survived by his sisters, Irene Hillard of Virginia Beach and Mary Hamilton of Richmond. Contributions may be made to the Boys Home, Covington VA. Memorial services will be at a later date at Christ Church Christiana Hundred, Greenville. Arrangements by the Chandler Funeral Homes.

Funeral services will be Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, 110 N. Union St, Petersburg, VA. Burial will be in Blanford Cemetery, Petersburg.
